Famous Games

6-basic-pieceBelow you’ll find a collection of games, both real and fictional, translated into poems. We will be adding games as this project goes on.

We wanted to include Marcel Duchamp and John Cage’s game at Ryerson University that was then translated into a musical score here, but, unfortunately, that game was never recorded. However, you can find a re-installation of the projection at johncage.org.

Paul Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard (Paris (1858)): “The Opera Game”

Adolf Anderssen vs Lionel Adalbert Bagration Felix Kieseritsky (London (1851)): “The Immortal Game”

Murphy (White) Vs. Mr. Endon (Black): From Murphy by Samuel Beckett.

Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

Donald Byrne vs Robert James Fischer (1956): “The Game of the Century”

Garry Kasparov vs Deep Blue (1996 & 1997 Rematch)

Garry Kasparov vs Deep Thought (New York (1989))

Napoleon vs The Turk (Schoenbrunn (1809))

Frank Poole vs HAL-9000 : From 2001: A Space Odyssey

Tyrell vs Sebastian: From Blade Runner

Moriarty vs Holmes: From A Game of Shadows

Turing Chess Program vs Alick Glennie (Manchester (1952))

Adolf Anderssen vs Jean Dufresne (Berlin (1852)): “The Evergreen Game”
